Rolling Into Milestones: How I Moved in My Own Way

I have low muscle tone (that’s called hypotonia), which can make it harder for muscles to support movement. But that didn’t stop me. I actually started moving around pretty early—around 3 months old, I was already learning to roll over. Once I figured that out, oh boy, there was no stopping me. I would roll from one spot to the next like a little human tumbleweed, getting to my toys, snacks, or next mission in life. Forget crawling—rolling was my super move for a while!
Eventually, I did start crawling around 7 months. Not bad, right? Especially considering that I was also a chunky baby! (And let’s be honest, chunky babies are the cutest, but lugging around those rolls is a workout!)
I got weekly visits from a physical therapist who was like my movement coach. She helped me and my mom figure out how to use my strengths to overcome the challenges that came with hypotonia. She cheered me on as I worked on tummy time, learned to balance, and built up the muscles I needed to sit, crawl, and eventually walk. Those early lessons taught me that progress may look different for everyone—but it's always worth celebrating.
My developmental delays affect me in many ways, but I’ve learned that “delayed” doesn’t mean “never.” It means “not yet”—and with time, support, and a little determination, those “not yets” turn into proud accomplishments.
Every roll, every crawl, every scoot was a step forward. And with every visit, we celebrated the little victories. It turns out that progress doesn’t always look like walking on time or sitting perfectly still—it looks like joyful rolling, wobbly crawling, and smiles that light up a room.
So whether you’re a roller, a crawler, a scooter, or a wiggle-master—just know that every milestone matters. And mine? They came with lots of laughter, love, and a whole lot of motion!
